MCCV & 108 Productions Presents The Los Angeles Critically-Acclaimed
Corpus Christi By Terrence McNally

"Recommended!  In director Nic Arnzen's heartfelt take, a multiracial, gender-bent ensemble led by the affecting James Brandon lands its core message ..." – Los Angeles Times

The Play
Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi is a retelling of the Jesus story, with Jesus as a gay man living in 1950s Corpus Christi, Texas.  Originally opening in 1998 to bomb threats and protests and continuing in various cities with the same reception, this revival production has been able to share McNally's message without a single demonstration. Starting humbly at the Metropolitan Community Church in the Valley in June 2006, the play's resounding success continued to sold-out audiences for months at the famed Los Angeles' Zephyr Theatre and is currently touring the world.

"GO!  The entire cast gives great performances...
Creating an ending that is almost cinematic in its scope." - LA Weekly

In our working with McNally, perhaps he says it best: "The play was meant to enlarge (people's) understanding of the divinity in each of us and at the same time, to include gay men and women in the story of Christ's life and encourage a return to spirituality.  It is pretty easy for gay people to feel alienated from any and all religions.  The play is my attempt to lessen that feeling of alienation where gay men and women are spiritual 'heroes' as well."

Typically performed by thirteen young men, this production continues to celebrate the play's message of embracing diversity by casting both men and women of a large age range from all walks of life.
