Traquair Goes Oriental!
A stunning line up of music, theatre, acrobatics and martial
arts have been announced for the 30th Traquair Fair on Saturday
2nd and Sunday 3rd August 2008.
This year the theme is Oriental with a real flavour of the East.
There will be the Hui Ling Chinese Acrobats with performances of
lion dance, foot juggling, ribbon dance and martial arts. On the
main stage in the walled garden there will be music from the
spectacular Korean percussion group, Dulsori and with a Japanese
flavour, the Dojo Drummers based in Scotland.
In addition the legendary Suns of Arqa, a collective of
musicians led by Michael Wadaba, sitarist and bassist who over
the last twenty years have been one of the most obscure but
influential bands with their own brand of global fusion music.
And not forgetting the superb Orkestra del Sol one of the
greatest festival bands around.
Around the Fair their will be the incredible Magic Singh, one of
the youngest magicians to have been allowed into the Magic
Circle and an amazing martial arts master on stilts with his
pupil.
In the wake of the Olympics the wonderful Van Dunk Brothers will
also be showing off their synchronised swimming routine with a
chance to have a go yourself and anyone interested in tennis
shouldn’t miss the extraordinary tennis match to be played out
in front of the house with a pristine court, dead posh umpire
and highly strung player looking to take on all comers!
Children will all have the time of their lives with shows from
Zenwing Puppets, Mr Boom, Shoestring Circus and Macastory as
well as workshops in Batik, Instrument making, Felt Making,
puppets, woodturning, plastercasts and circus skills.
As well as going oriental the Fair still retains a traditional
flavour with Scottish storytelling from Paraig McNeil, music
from the Beggar Girls and dance from the Nothumbrian Kingsmen.
Finally if all this entertainment is making you feel a little
hungry you can indulge yourself in a range of Indian, Chinese or
Middle Eastern food or a good old fashioned burger washed down
with that ultimate drink, Traquair Fayre Ale!
