UC-Edinburgh: Suggested & Potential Content For Website
Digital and web technologies are able to provide exciting new opportunities for breaking down social inclusion barriers and encouraging participation in the regeneration of local communities at a grass-roots level. The UC-Edinburgh website would aim to provide an online platform for local communities - created for and by local communities and able to feature such content as...
  • Our Local Hero
By working in association with community based agencies and community councils/forums across the city. UC-Edinburgh would produce a series of special online profiles and interviews highlighting the outstanding and often unsung work of individuals, organisations and services working within their local communities.

  • AREA 50+
Despite the long term increase in the general age of the Scottish population – the majority of entertainment and lifestyle resources currently available in both print and digital media are aimed at the under 50's and the family unit. UC-Edinburgh would aim to work with a wide selection of community and commercial organisations to create a new online lifestyle magazine for the 50+ age group.

From exhibition, concert and events listings to restaurant and theatre reviews – alongside articles and features on finance, fashion, health and fitness advice – The web based magazine would seek to provide an entertaining and informative range of information services for Edinburgh's older residents.

  • A Snapography Of Edinburgh
One of the greatest impacts digital technology has had in recent years has been the increasing availability and sophistication of digital cameras and digital photographic equipment.A Snapography of Edinburgh would provide online exhibition space for residents of Edinburgh seeking to share with the international online community their own views and interpretations of the various aspects and elements which combine to make Edinburgh one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

  • Edinburgh Sound – Online Resource for Edinburgh's Music Community
Edinburgh has a vast resource of musical talent which has to date been largely ignored at a national level with the result that Glasgow is often widely considered to be the musical capital of Scotland.

UC-Edinburgh would provide online profiles of signed and unsigned musical artists and bands based in Edinburgh and the Lothian's. Aside from information, photographs and concert listings - each profile would also provide a streaming media player able to feature a selection of MP3's.

Videos hosted on online video streaming services such as You-Tube and MySpace could also be embedded directly into artist’s profiles.

Example Of Player Only - No MP3's Or Streaming Media Are Loaded

  • Video and Audio Community Podcast-Magazine
Using online streaming media services such as U-Tube, UC-Edinburgh would produce and assist in the production of a series of video and audio reports and info-mercials detailing and promoting the work of creative and community based organisations, groups and individuals across the city of Edinburgh.

  • 'The Bletherers' Storyteller Session Podcasts
As shown by the continuing popularity and success of the Storytelling Centre and storytelling groups across the city, Edinburgh is home to an outstanding and entertaining range of 'bletherers'. Working with the organisations hosting such events in order to record sessions, UC-Edinburgh would provide online access to the material produced via the site's streaming media player service.
